Custom Ordering Process

The custom ordering process for filters, lenses, and prisms on this site, from specification to inquiry confirmation.

The custom ordering process

The custom ordering process on this site covers custom filters, lenses, and prisms. It is one process with the same discipline for every category: the buyer describes the requirement, the supplier checks it against the listed lines, and the specification, quantity basis, and delivery basis are confirmed in the inquiry before ordering. No step in this process publishes a quantity figure or a delivery figure, because no such figures are published for custom work on this site.

Step by step

Step one is to describe the optical job: what the element must pass, block, split, combine, attenuate, focus, or redirect, and in which wavelength region. Step two is to list the parameters that decide fit. For filters, those are centre wavelength or wavelength range, bandwidth or pass band behaviour, cut-off depth where it applies, size and shape, and substrate material. For fluorescence work, add the dye or probe name from the documented list. For neutral density work, add the ND value and the wavelength range. For prisms and lenses, add the model description, size, and material. Step three is to describe the system the element will sit in, including the instrument type and the mounting approach where it matters. Step four is to state the quantity basis and the delivery basis you need confirmed. Step five is to review the confirmation and, only then, to proceed to ordering.

What confirmation covers, and what it does not

Confirmation covers the specification you stated, the quantity basis you stated, and the delivery basis you stated. It does not create a new published specification for the catalogue, and it does not turn a custom value into a general product claim. A value confirmed for your custom element is your confirmed value. That boundary protects both sides: buyers are not sold against a specification that was never theirs, and the catalogue is not inflated with values that were confirmed for one order only.

Starting points

For custom filters, start with custom optical filters. For custom prisms, start with custom prism. For a step-by-step note, see the custom optical component process note. To start an inquiry, use the inquiry page or the custom optical inquiry page.

Send your filter specification for review

Please confirm the specification, quantity basis, and delivery basis in your inquiry before ordering. Use the inquiry page to list the parameters that matter for your application.
