What interference filters cover

Interference filters are optical elements built from thin coatings that select light by wavelength. The lines on this site that belong to this family are narrow band pass interference filters, fluorescence system filters, high reflection filters, beam splitting filters, color splitting filters, IR sensor interference filters, and short pass interference filters, together with neutral density filters and the special filters category name. Each line does a different optical job, and each line has its own page. The optical filter types page gives the same lines as a single overview, while the interference filter guide explains the general concepts and the selection factors buyers usually work through.

The lines, one by one

Fluorescence filters serve biomedical fluorescence detection systems and real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR instruments. This is the line with the deepest documented specification evidence on this site, including coating, excitation and emission examples, blocking performance, and sizes. Neutral density filters reduce light intensity across a documented wavelength range and ND value range, and are used in measuring instruments, lasers, cameras, security monitoring, and optical communication attenuation. Narrow band pass filters allow a specific band of light signals to pass, with a narrow pass band. Beam splitting filters are semi-transmitting mirrors that combine light of two or more wavelengths into the same optical path. Short pass filters are a kind of cut-off filter that reflects the short wave region and transmits the long wave region. Color splitting filters, high reflection filters, and IR sensor interference filters are listed production lines described at category level. UV mirrors are listed as UV reflector lines for industrial optical use. CCD gel imaging filters belong to gel imaging instruments, which are built from filters, lenses, and light sources. IPL beauty machine filters are necessary optical elements of beauty machines, filtering out harmful light including blue light and red light. Special filters appears here only as a category name from the listed production lines.

What this overview does not claim

This overview does not publish a specification table for the catalogue as a whole. Centre wavelength, bandwidth, cut-off depth, size, and substrate material are confirmed per product in an inquiry, because documented deep specifications exist only for fluorescence filters and neutral density filters. If a line page does not list a value, that value is not published for that line, and buyers should ask for it. Please confirm centre wavelength, bandwidth, cut-off depth, size, and substrate material in your inquiry before ordering. The inquiry checklist on each line page repeats those items so that nothing important is left to assumption.

Choosing a starting page

Buyers who already know the line they need should go straight to that line page. Buyers who know the application but not the line should start with the interference filter guide or the fluorescence filter selection guide and the neutral density filter selection guide, which explain selection at category level. Buyers ordering a custom element should start with custom optical filters or the custom ordering process. Procurement teams should use the optical filter manufacturer page or the interference filter manufacturer page.

Send your filter specification for review

Please confirm the specification, quantity basis, and delivery basis in your inquiry before ordering. Use the inquiry page to list the parameters that matter for your application.
