A category-level guide to prism types
Prisms are optical elements that redirect, split, combine, or disperse light, depending on their shape and on how they are used in an optical path. This guide covers prism types at category level only. It does not publish a model table, a size table, or a material table, and it does not use any prism sub-type as a target that is not documented for this site. The purpose of this guide is to help a buyer describe a prism requirement clearly enough that it can be confirmed in an inquiry, without pretending that a catalogue table exists where none has been documented.
Describing a prism by its job
The clearest way to describe a prism is by the job it must do in your system. Does it need to turn a beam by a fixed angle? Does it need to split or combine beams? Does it need to disperse light into its component wavelengths, or to correct the orientation of an image? Each job points toward a different prism family, and each family still needs a size, a material, and a wavelength region before it can be specified. A buyer who states the job, the size, and the wavelength region gives the supplier something checkable. A buyer who states only a prism name gives the supplier a name that may cover several different constructions.
Angle prisms and the wider category
Angle prisms appear in the company's homepage headings, and they have their own category page at angle prisms. The wider prism category on the optical prism page covers prisms as optical elements in general. Where a third-party directory listing mentions prism sub-types, that listing is a third-party record. It may help a buyer recognise a shape, but it is not presented on this site as a company specification, and no sub-type mentioned only in a third-party listing is treated here as a documented company product with its own specification.
What to confirm before ordering
Please confirm the following items in your inquiry before ordering: the prism job in your system; the prism type or shape you need; the size you need; the material you need; the wavelength region you work in; and the quantity basis and delivery basis for your order. For custom work, see custom prism and the custom ordering process. For procurement, see the prism manufacturer page.
